Mesa is a good sized city that is still growing in both area and population. Founded by Mormon pioneers in the late 1800s, Mesa now covers about 125 sq. miles and is home to very close to 500,000 people, third in Arizona for both measures only to Tucson and Phoenix.
The Mesa Arts Center is a state-of-the-art facility for live performances, by the Mesa Symphony among others, and art exhibits. Mesa shares a border with Tempe, giving easy access to Sun Devil Stadium and the world-renowned party district along Mill Avenue. Mesa is only about 15 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix and the major league sports and entertainment facilities there.
Mesa has always been a very affordable place to live. There is every variety of residence, from small apartments to large mansions, with prices that tend to be a bit below average for the metro area.
Mesa becomes a new-world Mecca starting about January 1 every year. The typical day-time high January through March is in the 60 to 80 degree range - very nice for "winter". There are over 20 golf courses, and over a dozen major league baseball teams in or near Mesa for Spring Training. In addition to very affordable hotel and resort facilities, Mesa has an abundance of RV parks, for which advanced reservations are essential most seasons.
