Chandler AZ Real Estate Agents - The Neal Team.
A.J. Chandler never developed the fame of P.T. Barnum, but he had a similar genius. In 1887, A.J. Chandler was the first veterinary surgeon in Arizona Territory. He built a strong practice, saved his money, and assembled the very large Chandler Ranch. In 1911, he started to sell sections for farms.
Realizing that celebrities attract attention, Chandler built the San Marcos Hotel and golf course - the first in Arizona. Chandler's lavish resort attracted some of the biggest names of the day - Errol Flynn, Gloria Swanson, Fred Astaire, and Herbert Hoover, to name a few. Another was Al Capone, who built a winter home that still stands in a prominent location along the golf course.
The San Marcos Resort has been remodeled many times and is thriving, but the Chandler farms have long been replaced by a combination of homes and high-tech. In 1998, a fabrication plant built in Chandler by Intel was the largest commercial construction West of the Mississippi. Motorola and Microchip also have large facilities in Chandler.
Located within twenty-five miles Southeast of downtown Phoenix, and extremely well-served by freeways, Chandler has had phenomenal growth over the years: from about 30,000 residents in 1980, to more than 200,000 in less than 20 years. Because of the growth of the area and the excellent freeway system, Chandler enjoys one of the newest, largest, and more sophisticated shopping centers in Arizona.
The median age of Chandler residents is only 31 years, reflecting a large number of families with young children. Most housing within Chandler is relatively new and affordable.
