An important fact about gated communities in Arizona that the home shopper needs to be aware of is that cities do NOT maintain any of the infrastructure, such as streets and light poles, that is behind a gate. The homeowners pay these costs directly through their homeowner associations.
Another issue is whether it is a "guarded" gate. If there is a guard controlling entry 24 hours every day, at least five people will be required to cover all of the hours, holidays, etc. That can be an expensive feature unless the community is very sizable.
A card-operated gate is much more practical.
